Let me paint you a picture. I was watching Married at First Sight one night (no shame, it’s reality TV gold), and this bride was gracefully walking down the aisle. The groom took one look at her and softly whispered into his mic… “This is not what I ordered.”

Cue the collective gasp.

And in that moment, I had a thought — what if we flipped the script?

How many NDIS participants have opened their front door, seen the support worker standing there, and felt exactly the same way?

Or what about the support workers? Showing up with good intentions, only to quickly realise the shift, the environment, or the expectations don’t align with who they are or how they genuinely want to support someone?

That moment stuck with me.

I’ve seen the heartbreak, the awkwardness, and the disconnection from both sides. I’ve watched people feel let down, unsupported, or simply mismatched. And not because anyone was doing a bad job, but because the spark — the fit — just wasn’t there.

So I thought, what if we stopped pretending people choose providers or platforms, and started acknowledging the truth?

People choose people.
